چکیده

There are only finitely many locally projective regular polytopes of type {5, 3, 5}. They are covered by a locally spherical polytope whose automorphism group is J1 × J1 × L2(19), where J1 is the first Janko group, of order 175560, and L2(19) is the projective special linear group of order 3420. This polytope is minimal, in the sense that any other polytope that covers all locally projective polytopes of type {5, 3, 5} must in turn cover this one. c © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Twisted Groups and Locally Toroidal Regular Polytopes

In recent years, much work has been done on the classification of abstract regular polytopes by their local and global topological type. Abstract regular polytopes are combinatorial structures which generalize the wellknown classical geometric regular polytopes and tessellations. In this context, the classical theory is concerned with those which are of globally or locally spherical type. In a ...

Groups of type L2(q) acting on polytopes

We prove that if G is a string C-group of rank 4 and G ∼= L2(q) with q a prime power, then q must be 11 or 19. The polytopes arising are Grünbaum’s 11-cell of type {3, 5, 3} for L2(11) and Coxeter’s 57-cell of type {5, 3, 5} for L2(19), each a locally projective regular 4-polytope.

5 J ul 2 00 3 Quotients of a Universal Locally Projective Polytope of type { 5 , 3 , 5 } ∗

This article examines the universal polytope P (of type {5, 3, 5}) whose facets are dodecahedra, and whose vertex figures are hemiicosahedra. The polytope is proven to be finite, and the structure of its group is identified. This information is used to classifiy the quotients of the polytope. A total of 145 quotients are found, including 69 section regular polytopes with the same facets and ver...

Reflection Groups and Polytopes over Finite Fields, III

When the standard representation of a crystallographic Coxeter group Γ is reduced modulo an odd prime p, one obtains a finite group G acting on some orthogonal space over Zp. If Γ has a string diagram, then G p will often be the automorphism group of a finite abstract regular polytope. In parts I and II we established the basics of this construction and enumerated the polytopes associated to gr...

Locally toroidal polytopes and modular linear groups

When the standard representation of a crystallographic Coxeter group G (with string diagram) is reduced modulo the integer d ≥ 2, one obtains a finite group G which is often the automorphism group of an abstract regular polytope. Building on earlier work in the case that d is an odd prime, we here develop methods to handle composite moduli and completely describe the corresponding modular polyt...
